Dr Fiona McClean, clinical psychologist

I gained my M.A. (Honours) in Psychology in 1991 and my professional doctorate (D.Clin.Psych.) in 1996 and have been providing psychological services to those in need ever since. Within the NHS, most of my career was spent providing therapy and psychological interventions to adults with a range of mental health challenges (such as anxiety, depression and PTSD), but I also spent some time within children's services.

I set up my own independent practice in 2018. The main focus of my current work is on providing psychological therapy to adults (18+), primarily for the impact of past trauma using evidence-based and compassionate approaches.

I completed my EMDR training in March 2020, my Level 1 IFS in March 2022 and my Level 2 IFS in October 2024, and find that a combination of both approaches works very well for many people. I have recently (May 2025) formalised this joint approach by completing Kendhal Hart’s Integrated EMDR and IFS model (Level 1).

I have a particular interest in working with autistic or otherwise neurodivergent adults - probably about 70% of my clients at any one time are neurodivergent in some way, whether formally diagnosed or not. I am a qualified and experienced autism and ADHD diagnostician, and although I no longer offer a diagnostic service, my understanding of this process can help me support those considering this route or in making sense of their lives post-diagnosis.

I am registered with the HCPC, the body that regulates health and care professions - please feel free to look me up! You can also find me on Psychology Today and Therapy Route.
